Laverne Gates Fornea, age 86, born in Columbia MS on June 20, 1926, a resident of Varnado, LA for more than 60 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 16, 2012 in Gulfport, MS.
She is survived by her sons, Gregory Neil Fornea of Varnado, LA and Ruffin Daniel (Greta) Fornea of Gulfport, MS; two sisters, Doris (Thad) Pearson of Florence, MS and Carolyn (Carl) Boone of Bunker Hill, MS; four grandchildren, Lorna Fornea, Lillie Fornea, Christi Gill and Shannon Fornea; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Tom Paul Fornea; her son, Tom Paul Fornea, Jr; her parents, Cassie Gates and Lillie Courtney Gates; her brothers, Howard Gates and Neville Gates.
Visitation will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at 2:00 P.M until the Funeral Services at 3:00 P.M. with the Rev. Bob Adams to officiate and Interment to follow at R. D. Fornea Cemetery in Varnado, LA.
