Nelson Bateman Johnson, born August 15, 1924 was a lifelong resident of Angie, Louisiana, and went home to be with the Lord on August 15, 2012, his 88th birthday. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 63 years, Katherine “Bobbie” Amrhein Johnson , four children, Kathy Johnson Cuthbert (Dan) of Baton Rouge, Mike Johnson (Lori) of Baton Rouge, Lynn Johnson of Oakland, CA, Sarah Johnson Pierce (Charles) of Franklin, TN, and seven grandchildren, Caitlin, Connor, Chandler, Payton and Parker Johnson, and Michael and Katie Pierce, one sister, Rosemary Johnson Knight (Esco) of Bogalusa and two sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Helm Johnson (Sid) of Bogalusa and Faye Doris Robbins Johnson (Billy) of New Orleans. Proceeded in death by his father, Paris Johnson, and his mother, Mary Agnes Bateman Johnson, of Angie, two brothers, Paris William, “Billy”, Johnson of New Orleans, and Sidney Ray Johnson of Bogalusa.
Nelson joined the Air Force in 1942 serving in WWII as a member of the 390th Bomb Group, completing 30 bombing missions over Germany and was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Angie Baptist Church and owned Johnson’s Feed Mill until retiring in 2001. He was an avid and sports enthusiast.

Visitation will be 11:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. on Saturday at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home, Bogalusa, Louisiana. Service will be officiated by Dr. Bryant Barnes following visitation.
